Sustainability Services

What is Sustainability?

Sustainability can be explained as “meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs.”

It has three main pillars:  Social, Environmental and Governance, known commonly as ESG. These three pillars are informally referred to as people, planet, and profits.

In the business world, sustainability is associated with an organisation’s holistic approach to its operations, considering everything, from manufacturing to logistics to supply chain to customer service. It is important to address all three pillars of sustainability in policy development via an integrated approach.

What is ESG

Environmental

The business mostly focuses on energy, waste, pollutants and carbon footprint, putting in place methods to reduce the environment factors.

Social

The business will concentrate on how internal and external stakeholders are treated and gain approval and buy-in from employees, stakeholders, and the community you are operating in. Within this pillar the business also needs to understand how its supply chain is being operated.

Governance

Plays a pivotal role in assessing an organization's global influence. Effective governance is essential for the sustained success of an organization, involving key aspects such as risk management, decision-making, transparency, compliance, and ethical conduct.

Why is Sustainability important for every organisation?

1

Climate change is the most pressing and urgent issue of our time. Even in years dominated by a global pandemic, the sustainability revolution has gained more focus and expanded to include a wider range of environmental and social issues. This has been further highlighted with COP26 where the whole world was watching as government officials agreed the next goals for the world to achieve.

2

There is an urgency for businesses to improve their environmental credentials. The time for people and businesses to act is now. Every organisation needs to reduce their CO2 footprint by 50% by 2030 and achieve carbon zero by 2050.

3

Consumers and investors are demanding significant change. Make no mistake, this is a revolution and within every industry nearly every product and most of our habits are under scrutiny. It would be downplaying it to call it anything else - even what executives drive will be under surveillance and critiqued as companies will now be expected to walk the walk as well as talk the talk.

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG's)

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries – developed and developing – in a global partnership. They recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go together with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.
